Not proven: Aripiprazole is a second-generation "atypical" antipsychotic originally developed for schizophrenia. It has subsequently been found to be effective in bipolar disorder, and most recently, as an "augmenting" agent to standard antidepressants for major depressive disorder. There is no proof that I am aware of that it can be an effective antidepressant by itself. Best.
