My husband is 56 and his psa last year was 1.21 and this year it went up to 5.88? doctor doesnt want to recheck for another 3 months. is this cause for concern?

This degree of rise in PSA is of concern. You need to consult a good Urologist who can provide you a better guidance as to how your problem can be best managed. A repeat PSA should be done to confirm the abnormal rise of PSA noted this year. if the PSA is over 5, then a biopsy of the Prostate may be in order.

If there is no family history of cancer of the prostate or ovary a 3 month wait is not too bad. He must have had rectal exam of the prostate if not needs one to check for possible cause
