Because Tuna is a predator fish, it has higher levels of mercury than other fish. Albacore tuna is the most problematic. Your child should be fine eating 1 can of tuna per week as long as it is not albacore tuna. He can eat a variety of other fish with no issues. Try cod, salmon, tilapia, and trout. Avoid other predator fish such as shark, swordfish, mackerel.

Offer a variety of sources of protein including lean chicken, fish sticks and beans as tolerated. Toddlers very often are picky eaters, and offering options is helpful and allows the child to choose. Monitor growth and development during well visits, and include an eye examination.
