Benign sleep jerks: There are two phases of childhood sleep. During quiet sleep the child is completely still with shallow breathing and very difficult to arouse. During active sleep they move about, arm or leg can jerk, they can talk, and they may get up and walk around while asleep. During active phases of development these active sleep events may become quite prominent. Later on they will calm down.
