A member asked:

My 16-month-old keeps getting a lot of yellow eye secretions. his dr told us he had blocked tear ducts when he first had trouble at 3-4 months old. could this still be the case now? what causes blocked tear ducts and is there a way to prevent them?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It would be unusual for a 16-year-old to have tear ducts that have not opened; however, it is best to take your child to na ophthalmologist to evaluate if the ducts are open or not. If not there are surgical procedures to open the ducts.
