Common in those who recently quit smoking: Globus Hystericus. Formerly thought to be all Psychological, but now considered to be part physiological. Feels like a ball in throat & tightness of the neck region. Oft mild cough, but no distinct signs of infection. Usually last several weeks & fades; sometimes months. Probably tension in certain muscles of upper airway. No serious consequences.
