Nifedipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker so if you want an alternative in the same group, amlodipine is an alternative. Nowadays, we rarely use nifedipine, even the long acting type, for HTN because possibly deleterious cardiac effect by study. If high heart rate and leg edema are of concerns, these Ca channel blockers should be avoided. There are others used as first tier choice.
