A member asked:

Prescribed 20mg prednisone for covid. 12 pills tapered over 6 days. i'm asthmatic. is it ok to cut the tablets in half? 20mg is too large of a dose. i've always been on 10 mg or lower. i've had asthma my whole life so i'm familiar with steroids?

Two milligrams per kilogram (2.2 lb) is the therapeutic dose for prednisone. I would bet you are more than 22 lb and your past experience with low dose prednisone (the body makes~5 mg/d) may be less than helpful. If you don't trust your doc find a new one. For Asthma and COPD exacerbation or flares seen in my clinic or the Emergency Room, I typically prescribe Prednisone 40 to 60mg once a day for 5 days. This is a safe dose and duration, and considered a "burst". I recommend taking it earlier in the day because it can cause insomnia.

I agree. A little more prednisone is better than too little in your case and it is for a very short period of time.
