A member asked:

Pelvic ultrasound is normal. is this as reliable as transvaginal ultrasound for excluding cancer of ovaries? ca125 52 during menstruation?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Normally the ovaries can be better visualized on a transvaginal ultrasound but that may not be true in your particular case. However a normal study does NOT exclude cancer of the ovaries. Unfortunately we are still looking for a sensitive screening test for ovarian cancer. Ultrasound and tumor markers in high risk situations can be helpful but that does not make them good screening tests.
