A member asked:

Dear doctors - would you let a patient know if you suspect cancer or not outright tell them to relieve panic but require a biopsy? my oral surgeon asked if i bit my tongue then said "i think it is a bite but let's do a biopsy to be sure" ?

Regardless of what the oral surgeon suspects, the biopsy is necessary to make a definitive diagnosis. Visualization of a lesion is not enough in most cases. No need to jump to conclusions.
