A member asked:

Echo showed abnormal septal motion and ef of 50%. cardiologist ordered cardiac mri and says that is "normal". how can that be? symptoms: exhaustion, shortness of breath, muscle fatigue, exercise intolerance?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

That is the lower end of the normal range, 50-70. Some of the blood pushed forward by the contraction goes backward when the heart relaxes, until the valve closes. No study ever shows a 100% ejection rate.
