Take him to an urgent care clinic or emergency room immediately; also call his pediatrician's office to let them know. What you describe is retraction of the chest wall, indicating potentially serious oxygen impairment. He may need to be hospitalized. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a good bet; there have been many media stories about the current RSV epidemic. Good luck.

Your son may have RSV or another infection. An evaluation may include an imaging study, nasal swab and an evaluation of his need for additional support. Is he in the hospital? If not, please see the Emergency room right away. Watch for signs of color change, grunting and fever.
