A member asked:

Can someone explein me why? why family practice drs dont push referral to hematologist if an incidence of thalassemia minor is suspected?my dr said you hgb, hct, wbc and platelets are fine and the rest (rdw, rbc, mcv, mch)is not of relevance!?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Beta thalassemia minor is a benign disorder. No treatment is needed. It does not predispose to any other illness. No benefit would come from seeing a hematologist. Wish you good health!
