The usual dose for an ear infection is 80 to 90 mg per kg per day. If there is no improvement in 48 hours, please follow up. Weight may vary and the weight used by your physician may not be exactly 36 lbs. Check with your pediatrician as well. The medication is safe and usually well tolerated. Watch for rash and GI upset. Confusing isn't it.The dosing for this med is based on both patient weight and what you are treating. For some respiratory or urinary infections a smaller dose of 50mg/kg/d would be expected.For an otitis media, 80-90mg/kg/d is considered proper. Your dosage is appropriate for the diagnosis.The reason for the difference is the difficulty getting the med into the middle ear space/germ resistance.
