If the tear was diagnosed by MRI, then it depends on the type of tear. In an active middle aged person, a full thickness tear will require surgical repair. Some partial thickness tears can be treated with rehab and close follow up. Some tears are “assumed” erroneously by the primary treating physician and if you are not responding to conservative management, then you need to see an ortho doc.
