When you have Thal- minor your body creates more of the smaller red cells to match the metabolic need of your body for oxygen carrying that will meet your need. By itself the number is neither unusual nor worrisome.

All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, if you have thalassemia minor, this finding is expected and normal. Wish you good health!
