Self treatment in is not the best. It is best to work with health professional that could objectively evaluate you to help you. It is not just medication that you should use in managing anxiety because what propanolol does is to blunt the effects of the chemicals released when you are anxious. Counseling may also help in preventing and blunting chemical release that cause the symptoms of anxiety.

Please don't do this. Self medication as at best hit-or-miss, at worst can be extremely dangerous. "Tapering off" should be monitored by a Physician to assure that no harm is being done. Best alternative is to establish the cause of your anxiety and learn to manage the cause. Best specialist to do this is a Psychiatrist.
