Is it okay to breathe in from mouth while brushing teeth? i kind of inhaled and feel like the mintness of the toothpaste went down, i started hacking up and coughing. should i not be doing so?

Try breathing through your nose and see if that alleviates the issue.

Yes, you should not be doing so. Toothpaste is formulated to be used in your mouth, not your lungs. Coughing from inhaling water into pulmonary system, where int doesn't belong. Aerosol that is created that you inhale for that minty feeling can be irritating to lung tissues. There are many reasons that breathing through nose is preferable, healthier, than through mouth.
