It has to do with the comfort level of the specific surgeon based on their prior experience and the specific type of surgery needed, complicated cases remain in the care of colorectal surgeons.

A well trained surgeon can do it. Sub specialization depends on the wish of the surgeon. They eventially acquire skills to tackle any eventuiality in their sub-specialty.

I do many surgical extractions that an oral surgeon performs, but none out of the scope of my ability. A general surgeon who has performed colorectal surgeries in the past is quite capable, if he or she follows the standard of care. Request who you feel most confident in.
