I am scheduled for sinus surgery. same doc who did my septoplasty 11 yrs ago. he's now 71 yrs old. do surgeons have to re-qualify like pilots?

Yes: Plastic surgeons are required to re certify on a scheduled cycle. Your surgeon may have been grandfathered in his speciality due to the time he received his certification. I would assume that your surgeon has vast experience and will do as well as he did for your last surgery.

No: No requalification is mandatory in most states. I would ask the doctor how many of these procedures he has done in the past year period. (not just how many has he done). Does he practice part, most, or full time at this point in his career. Also is this to be done in a hospital setting, as quality control is often in that utilization by other surgeons on surgery staff.
