Stress in absence of coping skills can be crippling, and would highly recommend seeking psychological counseling, especially a Cognitive-Behavioral therapist. Permanent structural brain damage does NOT occur due to emotional stress, and brain atrophy is also not a consequence, but, over time, electrochemical changes secondary to stress will affect sleep and life quality if not handled.
