A member asked:

Can oxygen deprivation from wearing a very tight neck tie cause permanent brain damage? i recently wore a very tight tie for 24 hours straight because i fell asleep on a couch. also, can holding your breath cause permanent brain damage?

Very unlikely: Although you were wearing a tight tie, I seriously doubt you were at risk of strangulation. Holding your breath might cause you to faint, but I doubt you could cause brain damage that way either. However, I wonder about the source of your concerns. Could you benefit from some counseling? You woke up!: I do not think that the was tight enough for you did wake up from your sleep. Now the neck is fragile and treat it gently. Do not put such pressure on this area there is no bones support. So stop it!
