It has to do with the type of workout and the intended warm up that may include stretching for the muscle groups mostly involved in the activity. A physical trainer may help clarify.

Most experts seem to advocate warming up your muscles before stretching. Since females have more lax joints than males, I caution them to avoid over exuberant stretching as I feel they can injure their joints with excessive stretching. You may want to consult a personal trainer for advice,though.
