Interval training: What you are talking about is interval training (30 sec sprint with a resting interval) vs lower intensity steady state training (treadmill or exercise bike). Weight lifters believe that the higher intensity interval training is better for burning fat. Some studies support this. Interval workouts should not be easier, though.
