Had an ear infection that cleared, now on prednisone to help eustachian tubes. once this heals, will this be something i have to always deal with? or could it be just a one and done thing? never experienced this before?

If you never experienced it before now, I would not assume it will be a chronic problem. Small kids with small Eustachian tubes and allergies/colds=yes, adults with or without colds/allergies=usually not since their tubes are quite a bit larger in diameter.
