You likely have symptomatic iron deficiency anemia (moderate to severe anemia) but people in developed countries do not die from this condition. However, the underlying condition which causes bleeding needs to be diagnosed and taken care off. Yes, you need to take at least 130 mg of ELEMENTAL iron a day (take with Vitamin C will help the absorption) and you should eat foods with high iron content.
