I had a mri w/o contract of my entire spine and brain. a spinal sprinx was found. they want to do a mri with contrast to find the cause. i don't want contrast. is it absolutely necessary to use contrast to see spinal tumors?

Yes, MRI with contrast is indicated for the different diagnosis of the spinal lesion. Unless you have advanced chronic kidney disease, contrast used for MRI does not cause any significant long term side effect.
