A simple blood test demonstrating elevated fasting blood sugar over 126 mg/dl or a hemoglobin A1c above 6.5%. Connect with your PCP or a doctor on HealthTap to obtain testing if needed.

Symptoms such as constant thirst and hunger, along with frequent urination and weight changes should prompt tests such as a fasting blood glucose or Hb A1c, some available over the counter. However if having such symptoms would suggest letting your doc know.
