Pregnant women belong to the high-risk populations. Yes, you should talk with the dentist and request an alternative.

Too much confusing literature about amalgam fillings over the years. The ADA still endorses it's use. Sometimes there is more mercury in the water you drink. White fillings are for esthetics or those who desire them. Amalgam fillings are stronger and still considered ethical, even for pregnancy. If you are so worried than request a white filling, but be prepared to pay more.
