A member asked:

I have annual eye exams. i'm a 69 year old female who was recently diagnosed with exophoria. my optometrist tells me this is a result of a neurological issue. i have had no symptoms. at what point should i see a neuro-opthamologist?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

An exophoria means that the eyes tend to drift outward. The "phoria" part means that it is not a constant out turning, but only at times. The most common cause of this is a "decompensated" misalignment, meaning that there has been a tendency for the eyes to turn out all during life, and now for some unknown reason, the eyes can't hold the alignment and drift out. Convergence exercises might help.
