A member asked:

I've had 3 colonoscopies over the last 15 years. all negative. no polyps. non-smoker, non-drinker, normal weight. my mom died from colon cancer in 1997. smoked 20yr, avg. drinker, obese, bad diet. last screening 2016. how many years before next one?

A negative colonoscopy is good for 10 years. So you can wait but should have a repeat test in 2025/26. Of course if you have any symptoms like rectal bleeding or Anemia, that is an indication for repeating this test sooner than 10 years of gap.

Agree with Dr. L. An additional precaution you may take would be to get a FIT test once a year. Wish you good health!
