Does chronic constipation require hard/lumpy stool? having issues passing stool for 6mos. pass stool in pieces with a lot of strain and hunched over. no blood on/in stool. stool is smooth and not dehydrated.. history of colon cancer in family?

Chronic constipation is usually a cause of hard,lumpy stool. If your main issue is.irritable bowel syndrome-Constipation, there's a prescription medication that can be effective. A gastroenterologist can advise you best regarding this and indication for colonoscopy.

First try common means to get rid of the constipation. Adequate fluids, roughage in diet, moderate exercise and OTC psyllium. If hat does not work pl see your MD. Re h/o colon Ca recommend colonoscopy starting age 35yrs.- then as per MD advice. Good luck
