I would advise taking one dose today then change the frequency to as needed, i.e. take it when you feel the symptom even daily. If after 2 weeks you still need to take more than 5 pills in 2 weeks, you may not be able to get off it all together. Then you should discuss with your doctor about using famotidine (pepcid) as the maintenance therapy. Pepcid has much less side effects for long term use.
