Can an ultrasound determine whether a lymph node is cancerous vs reactive? i have a thyroid ultrasound in two days and am coming down with a cold. i am wondering whether any abnormal lymph nodes will show and alter the results?

The ultrasound would differentiate between the thyroid and a lymphnode however there would be a need for biopsy usually to differentiate what may be causing the enlarged lymph node. The radiologist may be able to speculate possibilities in reporting the ultrasound but usually not definitively.
