I have been sick today and thrown up several times. i just threw up and immediately experienced a terrible burning pain all across my chest, like it was on fire. i took some tums and am resting. the pain lessened but not gone. any ideas?

Vomiting involves the upflow of very acidic stomach contents into areas that are not used to such severe acids. The esophagus, throat and mouth/teeth are not made to handle such acidic liquids. It is possible that the acid has severely irritated the lining of your esophagus/throat and is the cause of the pain. Make sure you are drinking lots of non acidic fluids, and eating a bland diet if you can
