I would heed your dentist's diagnosis since s/he actually visualized the lesion. The chances of oral cancer with no smoking at your age is virtually zero.

Dentists are trained to recognize an oral cancer. If s/he says it is an abrasion I would accept the diagnosis. If you want a second opinion see another dentist or an oral surgeon.

This could be a canker sore from stress, too much acidic foods, or anxiety. If you have a sharp or chipped edge on a back tooth, than your tongue would be abraded causing this pain and swelling. If this situation continues seek a second opinion.

Fortuitously the risk of oral cancer in a 21 year old non-smoker non-drinker is virtually nil. If you have a sharp fractured edge on a tooth, see your Dentist. If the lesion is not fully healed in 2 weeks from onset, see an Oral Pathologist or an Oral Surgeon. Swelling o sublingual tissues and collate papillae may be due to nothing more than hard bread crust.
