Any foreign body trapped in the ear canal can lead to infection, odor and excess accumulation of ear wax. You can try doing an ear flush with over the counter ear flush preparations. Other than that, you should not try to remove it yourself. If the wash does not work, see your regular Dr for removal as they have special tools
