Ear itching: It could be irritation from the ear bud, ear wax or just dry skin. First thing, i'd avoid putting anything into the ear including earbuds, fingers, and especially q-tips. Q tips are notorious for packing wax into the ear and irritating the sensitive skin of the canal. Wax impaction can cause the itching you're describing, so i'd have your doctor take a look inside, clean out any wax.

Eczema : This is a common condition frequently associated with having insufficient wax coating in the ear canal. Getting water in ears, or excessive use of q-tips often aggravates the condition. Best advice is to avoid getting water in ears, avoid the use of q-tips, and to instill oil (sweet oil) into the canals periodically. Severe itching and scaling may require topical steroid oil drops be prescribed.
