How soon after birth should parents start reading to the newborn (plus other sensory stimulation)?

As soon as you have the time. Babies take in the fluctuations in tone and speed of speech as soon as it is presented. These begin the imprinting of what they will begin to mimic/use later. I find "baby talk" silly and non-productive but reading stories or conversing with them in proper tone/pattern helps.
