I have hypertension, treating with atenolol. in the last 3-4 days have been getting a throbbing with pain just behind the right jaw on the side of the neck. very sporadic in occurrance and duration?

It is difficult to determine the cause of this pain without an examination but hypertension and atenolol are very less likely associated with this pain. See your doctor if pain gets worse or becomes persistent.

Could involve TMJ dysfunction but other mechanisms could be cause. This is NOT due to medication. A dentist should look at this along with your doctor
