A member asked:

I had an encounter about 22 years ago that was at higher risk for hiv infection. is it possible to be hiv infected for 22 years and not know it, i.e., have no signs or symptoms?

You can go anywhere from two weeks to two months with flu like symptoms and not test positive, but can infect others. As time goes on and your immune system is weakened you will feel the effects and test positive. After 22 years you would be dead without treatment if tested positive.
