Yes, it is a chronic condition, usually due to the lack of a substance in your stomach juice (intrinsic factor). Without this substance, your gut can't absorb vitamin B12 then pernicious anemia occurs.

It is a life long condition and you need to take vitamin B12 by injection. Sublingual form of vitamin B12 may suffice if validated by blood tests.
