Family member had ambulatory surgery, got prescribe d800 mg of antibiotic (amoxillin clauvate i think) twice a day for 3 days. now shes been having stomach and back pain, nausea, diahrrea and feels weak. is it the antibiotic? surgery site looks fine?

It might be the antibiotic, but you'll need to discuss this with her prescribing physician.

The clavulinic acid in augmentin is hard on the stomach and should be taken with food. She may have antibiotic associated diarrhea, but if the diarrhea is severe, a culture to test for c diff and other intestinal pathogens is indicated. She must drink lots of fluids and eat only soft, bland foods. After multiple loose movements she can take imodium according to instructions. Notify her MD
