People don't develop antibiotic resistance, but some germs do and that is why we have so many that are hard to kill. When you have a well documented need, take the med. If the issue is likely viral, like some bronchitis, don't until the issue appears to have become bacterial.

Strep needs to be treated with antibiotics, but many times bronchitis is caused by a virus or an allergy or irritation and does not need an antibiotic. I am not suggesting not listening your doctor, but I would suggest also considering seeing a specialist for lungs or allergies (either a pulmonologist or an allergist) to see if there are underlying nonbacterial causes that can be found and treated.
