Skeletal survey has no role in primary hyperparathyroidism. You can have a parathyroid scan (sestamibi scan) done to see if the scan can identify the enlarged parathyroid gland. However, this scan is not as sensitive as we expect. Skeletal survey is used for patient with multiple myeloma with high calcium in blood (hypercalcemia) and osteolytic lesions will be detected by bone X-rays.
