Antibiotic choice is usually best confirmed in the lab. A culture is done from the source, grown out in the lab and tested against an array of antibiotics. The testing shows which if any antibiotics have the best activity against the strain. Randomly trying antibiotics is a common practice but is often just a best guess.

I'm assuming treatment is for urinary tract infection, or possibly prostatitis. If the former, a urine culture & sensitivity test will show which antibiotic will work best. Test will also show if you're not emptying bladder completely. Recommend consultation with a urologist to find cause of repeated infections.
