This is not an uncommon problem with women because they have a tendency to have a wider pelvis and that’s have what’s called femoral anteversion. This creates a greater cue angle or a quadricep angle putting stress on the patella in the lateral position. Meaning it has a tendency to dislocate. Wearing a custom orthotic can help reposition and lower the Q angle taking stress off of the patella

I would add to the previous advice that women have more lax joints than men and I always advised against over exuberant stretching of joints and their surroundings.
