I had genital sore and watery foul smelling discharge i got a doctor to take a look and he immediately thought it was hsv. i didnt get tested but i did get medication which cleared it up is it possible that its something else ?

HSV rarely causes foul smelling vaginal discharge but for sure it causes genital sores. At least your symptoms have been cleared with the treatment. Can you tell us what medication(s) were you taking?

Visual diagnosis of herpes usually is accurate if the doctor is experienced in herpes. But lab testing still is best; it is mportant to know if genital herpes is due to HSV type 1 or 2. Initial herpes often triggers bacterial vaginosis, causing discharge with odor. The BV itself needs treatment (usually with metronidazole) in addition to herpes treatment with acyclovir or valacyclovir. Good luck.
