Hyperuricemia (high serum uric acid) is a common and necessary pathogenic factor in the development of gout but the majority of people with hyperuricemia never develop gout so I can't satisfactorily answer your question. However, ethnicity is a non-modifiable risk factor and for sure you and your immediate family members are of the same ethnicity.

The genetics of high serum uric acid and gout attacks are very complex with several variants. Either your family has high urate production by the liver or insufficient excretion of uric acid by the kidneys& gut. Only 25% of people with high uric acid levels get gout attacks. Genes& not diet may be the cause of gout attacks & they may occur without high serum uric acid levels. Rheumatologist advise
