A member asked:

I read that pid can be asymptomatic. is it possible for a person to have untreated bacterial vaginosis that becomes asymptomatic pid or pid that only has mild symptoms? if so, how could a person find out that they had pid after treating the bv?

What is termed "bacterial vaginosis" (BV) is a localized vaginal overgrowth with typically unpleasant odor, and not "pelvic inflammatory disease" ,which may have more serious implications. Some antibiotics used to treat BV may also treat "PID", but a repeat culture and an exam by your GYN physician will provide guidance.
